U.S. Restricts Government Travel to Nogales, Mexico, Over Unspecified Threat; Rep. Andy Biggs Urges Caution
The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Mexico have issued a security warning, restricting U.S. government activities and travel to Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, to essential movement during daylight hours only. This restriction comes in response to unspecified threat information. The U.S. Consulate General in Nogales stated that U.S. citizens are being alerted to this threat and the change in posture. Following the alert, Sonora’s State Security Board contacted U.S. consular officials but reported no information identifying a specific threat or establishing a concrete risk to the public. Despite this, state authorities affirmed they would continue preventive security operations in Nogales. The U.S. Travel Advisory already designates Sonora as a Level 3 'Reconsider Travel' area. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) has publicly urged Americans in or near Nogales, or those with family and friends there, to heed the guidance and warnings from the U.S. government, expressing prayers for the safety of U.S. citizens and personnel.
