Record October Heat Wave Grips Los Angeles
Los Angeles is experiencing an unprecedented October heat wave, with Downtown L.A. recording the longest consecutive stretch of 100°F (37.8°C) days in October since records began. The National Weather Service Los Angeles has confirmed that this year marks the hottest summer on record for the city, spanning from June 1 to October 4, 2026. This extreme heat has left many residents struggling to cope, particularly renters who lack access to adequate cooling systems in their homes. Despite previous efforts by L.A. County to address indoor heat issues, such as the Safe Indoor Temperature Ordinance passed in 2025, similar protections have yet to be implemented in the city of Los Angeles.
