Study Maps Diabetic Eye Exam Non-Adherence in Rochester, NY
A study conducted by the University of Rochester Medical Center has mapped the non-adherence to diabetic eye exams across urban and rural communities in the Rochester, NY area. Using GIS-based analysis, the study identified socioeconomic factors such as poverty and Medicaid enrollment as significant predictors of non-adherence. The research found that non-adherence rates were similar across urban, suburban, and rural areas, but rural areas showed greater variability. The study suggests that targeted interventions, such as teleophthalmology and mobile eye care, could improve adherence rates.
