Rochester Faces Challenges in Policing Street Parties Amid Rising Gun Violence
Rochester, New York, is grappling with the challenge of managing unsanctioned street parties that have been linked to recent incidents of gun violence. Following a weekend of violence that resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including a 14-year-old girl, city officials have implemented new traffic-control measures, such as installing concrete bollards along North Clinton Avenue. Despite these efforts, the city continues to struggle with maintaining order during these gatherings. Mayor Malik Evans has emphasized the need to prevent violence without resorting to over-policing, while community leaders advocate for more proactive measures to ensure safety.
