29-Year-Old Man Dies in Head-On Collision with Tractor-Trailer in Portage County
A 29-year-old man from Kent was killed in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer early Saturday morning in Portage County, Ohio. According to Streetsboro police, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the 10300 block of State Route 43. The man, driving a Nissan Altima southbound, reportedly traveled left of center in a 50 mph zone, resulting in a direct impact with the oncoming tractor-trailer. Emergency services, including police, fire, and EMS, responded to a call from the 55-year-old truck driver involved in the crash. The engine compartment of the tractor-trailer briefly caught fire but was extinguished shortly after authorities arrived. The 29-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and his vehicle sustained 'catastrophic damage.' The truck driver was shaken but uninjured, though his vehicle also incurred considerable damage. State Route 43 was closed for several hours while the Summit Metro Crash team conducted its initial investigation and reopened around 7:40 a.m.
