Nebraska Hospital Executive Resigns Amid Allegations of $38,000 in Improper Charges
The Chief Executive Officer of Friend Community Healthcare System, also known as Warren Memorial Hospital, a rural Nebraska hospital, has abruptly resigned. This resignation follows allegations of over $38,000 in improper credit card charges, as detailed in a letter released by Nebraska State Auditor Mike Foley. The audit, conducted by external professionals, found questionable expenses including airline ticket upgrades, hotel charges, streaming subscriptions, retail purchases, and dining expenses reimbursed with hospital funds. The former administrator, whose name has not been released, is also alleged to have attempted to mislead auditors regarding the opening of a second hospital credit card. The hospital's Board of Directors accepted the resignation after the audit findings and has appointed Ron Te Brink as Interim CEO. The Board stated that the audit found no issues with broader hospital finances, and daily operations, emergency services, and patient care remain uninterrupted.
