Tiverton Officials Address PFAS Contamination in Local Wells
Residents in Tiverton, Rhode Island, are seeking answers after high levels of PFAS, known as 'forever chemicals,' were discovered in private wells near the Crandall Road fire station. The contamination is believed to stem from the historical use of PFAS-containing firefighting foam at the Tiverton Fire Department Station 3. In response, the town is providing affected residents with Poland Springs drinking water and installing water filtration systems at no cost. Town Manager Patrick Jones announced plans to extend a nearby water line to impacted homes, using town funds initially, with the expectation of reimbursement from federal and state agencies. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) is offering free PFAS testing for homeowners with private wells in the affected area.
