16,000 Customers Without Power After Severe Storms in Finger Lakes
Severe thunderstorms swept through Western and Central New York, including the Finger Lakes region, on Wednesday evening, causing widespread power outages. According to NYSEG and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E), over 78,000 customers experienced service interruptions, with 40,000 NYSEG and 38,000 RG&E customers affected. As of Thursday morning, utility crews have restored power to more than 60,000 customers, but approximately 16,000 remain without electricity. The hardest-hit areas include NYSEG’s Geneva Division, covering Ontario, Wayne, Seneca, and Yates counties, and RG&E’s Central and Fillmore Divisions, which include Monroe, Orleans, Allegany, Genesee, Livingston, and Wyoming counties. Restoration efforts are ongoing, with crews working to address the remaining outages.
