Rochester House Demolished After Fire Causes Structural Damage
A house on Columbia Avenue in Rochester, New York, was demolished following a fire that occurred early Monday morning. The Rochester Fire Department responded to the scene at approximately 2:54 a.m. after receiving reports of flames emanating from the unoccupied, boarded-up home. Firefighters encountered heavy fire on the second floor, which had spread to the attic. An aggressive firefighting effort was launched to protect nearby occupied homes. Due to the risk of collapse, firefighters were ordered to evacuate the structure and switch to a defensive strategy. The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes, but crews remained on site for several hours. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. This house had previously caught fire on April 8.
