Pennsylvania Priest Gregory Madeya Arrested for $750,000 Theft from Churches, Parishioners, and Mother
Gregory Allen Madeya, a 69-year-old priest from Pennsylvania, has been arrested in Florida on charges of stealing approximately $750,000. The alleged thefts, which date back to 2018, involved funds from three churches, church affiliates, and nearly $250,000 from his elderly mother, who was unable to manage her own finances. Attorney General Dave Sunday stated that Madeya abused the trust placed in him by his community and his own family. Investigations revealed that Madeya's mother was evicted from multiple nursing facilities due to unpaid bills. During the period of the alleged thefts, Madeya reportedly purchased a 2018 Ford Mustang for over $35,000 and gave it to a man living with him. Witnesses from the church community reported instances of missing collection money, fundraising proceeds, donations, rent, and church-related fees that were never deposited into official accounts. Madeya was also accused of attempting to sell a gold chalice, originally purchased for $19,440, to a jeweler.
