California Boater Dies in Shasta Lake Attempting to Rescue Dog
A California man, Geordan White, 60, of Redding, died after jumping into Shasta Lake to rescue his dog. The incident occurred on a Friday morning near the Bailey Cove Boat Launch. White was aboard a boat when his pet leaped into the water. Upon entering the lake to retrieve his dog, White began to struggle. A 911 caller from a nearby vessel attempted to assist by throwing a flotation device, but White was unable to maintain his grip and subsequently disappeared beneath the surface. Authorities later recovered White's body from the lake with the help of a dive team. An autopsy is anticipated to determine the precise cause of death. The dog, however, survived the ordeal after being pulled from the water by the 911 caller.
