UMass Memorial Health to Open New Emergency Room in Groton by February 2027
UMass Memorial Medical Center at Nashoba Valley in Groton is scheduled to open a new emergency room in early February 2027. This development follows the closure of Nashoba Valley Medical Center in 2024 after its owner, Steward Health Care, filed for bankruptcy. The new facility aims to re-establish essential emergency room care in the region. UMass Memorial Medical Center President Justin Precourt detailed that the new emergency department will be full-service, featuring 15 patient exam rooms, a CAT scan, X-ray, laboratory services, and ultrasound capabilities. It will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will treat all patients seeking care, providing comprehensive emergency services without inpatient beds.
