Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and DOE Discuss Nuclear Growth in Oak Ridge
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, alongside EM Assistant Secretary Tim Walsh from the Department of Energy (DOE), participated in the East Tennessee Economic Council's Nuclear Opportunities Workshop. The workshop focused on highlighting Oak Ridge's strategic position to contribute significantly to the nation's nuclear future. A key aspect of this initiative involves the cleanup efforts at Oak Ridge, which are facilitating the transfer of over 2,500 acres of federal land. This land is being made available for economic development and the production of affordable energy. The goal is to create space for new nuclear projects, which are projected to attract billions of dollars in investment and generate thousands of new jobs within the region. The discussions underscored the collaborative efforts between state leadership and federal agencies to leverage existing infrastructure and expertise in Oak Ridge for advancements in nuclear technology and energy production.
