Man Survives 120-Foot Plunge into Creek at Glacier National Park Thanks to Bystander Intervention
Ken Nurse, a man visiting Glacier National Park in Montana with his family and friends, survived a 120-foot fall into McDonald Creek on August 13. The incident occurred when Nurse moved closer to the edge of an overlook near McDonald Falls to take photos, and the ground beneath him gave way. He plunged down a cliff and went over a set of waterfalls. A good Samaritan bystander witnessed the fall and immediately entered the creek, finding Nurse lying face down. The bystander pulled Nurse into shallower water and began chest compressions when he realized Nurse was not breathing, actions credited with saving his life. Glacier National Park rangers were attending to Nurse in the creek when the Two Bear Air Rescue helicopter crew arrived. Video footage shows a crew member being lowered from the helicopter to secure Nurse, who was then hoisted from the water and transported to a medical helicopter for further stabilization and hospital transport.
