George Washington Memorial Parkway Faces Temporary Closures for Tree Maintenance
The National Park Service has announced temporary closures of the northbound lanes of the George Washington Memorial Parkway to perform tree work. Starting August 10, the closures will occur from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and will continue until September 1. The affected section is between Spout Run Parkway and Route 123. During these hours, northbound drivers must exit at Spout Run, follow the posted detour, and re-enter at Route 123. The closures are necessary for crews to safely inspect trees, prune branches, and remove trees when necessary. This maintenance follows a $167 million rehabilitation of the Parkway's northern section, which included new pavement, bridge and drainage repairs, and safety improvements.
