U.S. Rep. Andrea Salinas Proposes Bill for First Responder Mental Health Funding
U.S. Representative Andrea Salinas, a Democrat representing Oregon’s 6th Congressional District, is introducing a bill aimed at establishing a grant program to support the mental health needs of first responders and firefighters. This proposed legislation would allocate $7.5 million annually for nationwide suicide prevention programs, peer support, and counseling services. The initiative seeks to address the significantly higher rates of suicidal ideation and attempts observed among first responders compared to the general population.
