East Is About to Get Its First Taste of Frost This Week
A cold front will push cooler air across the East on Monday. Morning temperatures across the Northeast and Mid Atlantic will fall into the lower and middle 40s, while afternoon highs reach only the mid 60s. After Monday, below average temperatures are expected to persist through the week, increasing the potential for the first October frost across parts of the Northeast and Mid Atlantic. Early Tuesday, frost or freeze conditions could develop in normally colder inland and rural areas of the Great Lakes, especially at higher elevations. By Tuesday night and early Wednesday, the risk expands into the Appalachians and interior Northeast, with the greatest threat of a killing freeze from northern Pennsylvania through the Adirondacks and Green Mountains. Sensitive plants may need protection.
