Gisborne Man Rescues Elderly Occupant from House Fire
Tim Morris, a 37-year-old construction worker from Gisborne, New Zealand, rescued an 89-year-old man from a burning house. Morris and a friend were driving along Aberdeen Road around 1 AM on a Saturday when they noticed the blaze. They pulled over and, battling thick smoke, pulled the elderly occupant through a broken window to safety. After ensuring no one else was inside and alerting neighbors, Morris and his friend left the scene before emergency services arrived. The 89-year-old is currently recovering in the hospital. Police later appealed for the rescuer to come forward, and Morris presented himself at the Gisborne police station on Sunday morning after his friend showed him the appeal. Detective Senior Sergeant John Love commended Morris's quick actions, stating that the occupant was saved from a life-threatening situation.
