Man Sentenced to 28.5 Years for Deadly Rochester Home Shooting
Jawanza Abrams, 21, of Rochester, has been sentenced to 28 and a half years in prison for a shooting that resulted in the death of 23-year-old Jeremiah Maddox and injured another man. The incident occurred on January 26, 2025, when Abrams opened fire from the sidewalk into a Ferris Street home. Maddox died at the scene, while a 19-year-old man sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Three other individuals inside the home were unharmed. Investigators determined the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute involving illegal activity. Abrams was linked to the crime after Monroe County sheriff's deputies found him with an illegal firearm during an unrelated shoplifting investigation in Henrietta on March 6, 2025, with forensic testing confirming the weapon's use in the Ferris Street shooting. Abrams previously pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
