Bed-Stuy Native Aaliyah Duah Wins $200,000 David Prize for Financial Literacy Education
Aaliyah Duah, a 23-year-old native of Bed-Stuy, has been awarded the $200,000 David Prize for her work in teaching financial literacy to students across New York City. Duah founded Financial Revolutionn during her sophomore year at Virginia State University, creating workshops that make personal finance relatable and engaging for young people. Her organization currently reaches students in over 30 schools across Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx. Duah uses everyday examples like Roblox, sneakers, and iPhones to explain complex financial concepts such as credit cards, interest, and retirement accounts. She is also preparing to release a coloring and activity book, 'My Financial ABC’s,' aimed at teaching basic financial terms to children aged 3-8. The David Prize, launched in 2020 by the Walentas Family Foundation, recognizes visionaries making a difference in New York City.
