Fast-Moving Storms Cause Flooding in NYC and NJ
A line of fast-moving storms caused significant flooding in parts of New York City and New Jersey on Sunday morning, August 23, 2026. In Queens, flooding near Exit 5 of the Clearview Expressway trapped two cars, requiring assistance from the FDNY to safely evacuate the drivers. Additional flooding led to temporary closures of lanes on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and Long Island Expressway. In Newark, firefighters responded to multiple calls of stranded vehicles near Frelinghuysen Avenue and Meeker Avenue, where three drivers were rescued using an inflatable raft. The storms moved quickly through the region, leaving behind localized disruptions.
