Record Heat Expected in Chicago Early This Week
Unseasonably warm temperatures are forecast for the Chicago area on Monday and Tuesday, with highs potentially reaching the upper 80s °F (30-31 °C). This heat is unusual for October, as normal highs for this time of year are typically around 64-65 °F (18 °C). Meteorologists predict that Monday's high at O'Hare International Airport could reach 86 °F (30 °C), breaking the previous record of 84 °F (29 °C) set in 2008. Similarly, Tuesday's high may approach 88 °F (31 °C), which would surpass the record set in 1975. Other parts of Illinois, including Columbia, have already experienced record-breaking temperatures, with highs reaching 91 °F (33 °C) on Sunday. A cold front is expected to bring cooler, more typical mid-October weather later in the week, along with chances of rain Tuesday night and Thursday. Source time: Mon, 12 Oct 2026 11:15:04 GMT.
