Menendez Brothers Granted Earlier Parole Hearings in California
Lyle and Erik Menendez, convicted in 1996 for the 1989 murders of their parents, have been granted earlier parole hearings in California. According to ABC News, Lyle's hearing is scheduled for February 23, 2027, and Erik's for February 24, 2027. Both hearings will take place at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego County. The brothers were initially sentenced to life without parole, but a Los Angeles judge reduced their sentences in May 2025 to 50 years to life, making them eligible for parole due to being under 26 at the time of their crimes. The acceleration of their parole hearings by over a year is attributed to Proposition 9, also known as Marsy’s Law, which allows for earlier review if new information or changed circumstances suggest suitability for parole.
