Mother Dies Saving Son from Des Plaines River in Illinois
Angelina Khalimendik, a 31-year-old mother, tragically died on Sunday after successfully rescuing her 7-year-old son from the Des Plaines River near Independence Grove Forest Preserve in Illinois. According to her family, her son was playing in the shallow end of the river when a sudden current swept him away. Khalimendik immediately entered the water and managed to get her son to safety. However, she was then swept away by the current herself. A family member and a bystander pulled her from the water, and she was subsequently transported to a hospital, where she later passed away. Khalimendik leaves behind three children, aged 7, 9, and 10. Her family is remembering her as a loving mother and a hero.
