Innovative Patterns Aim to Disrupt AI Facial Recognition Systems
Bill Swearingen, a cybersecurity professional, is developing patterns designed to confuse AI facial recognition systems. His project, noRecognition, aims to create clothing that makes wearers harder to detect by AI surveillance. At the Defcon convention, Swearingen demonstrated how a pattern could lower a camera's confidence score, preventing it from detecting a person. The project uses software to generate and test patterns against AI models, seeking designs that disrupt person and face detection. While promising, the effectiveness of these patterns on worn clothing remains unproven.
