Storms May Obscure Pensacola's View of Partial Lunar Eclipse
A partial lunar eclipse is set to occur on the night of August 27-28, 2026, and will be visible across Florida, including Pensacola. This event is being described as the best lunar eclipse visible on Earth until New Year's Eve 2028. During the eclipse, up to 93% of the moon will be covered by Earth's shadow, creating a dramatic visual effect with a reddish-orange tint. However, weather conditions in Pensacola may interfere with viewing. A disturbance from the Tennessee Valley is expected to bring widespread showers and thunderstorms to the area, with rain chances decreasing to about 30% during the eclipse window. The eclipse will begin with the penumbral phase at 8:23 p.m. CT on August 27 and conclude with the penumbral phase ending at 2:01 a.m. CT on August 28.
