Rainy Week Ahead for Polk County Amid Tropical Activity
Polk County, Florida, is set for a rainy week as meteorologists monitor two tropical systems: the remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly and Invest 97L. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Ruskin, the area will experience a mix of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, with rain chances increasing in the mornings later in the week. On August 31, the forecast predicts scattered showers and thunderstorms between 2 and 5 p.m., followed by more widespread rain and possible thunderstorms after 5 p.m. The high temperature is expected to reach 94°F (34°C), with heat index values as high as 105°F (40.5°C). Rainfall amounts could range from 0.1 to 0.25 inches, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The remnants of Tropical Storm Dolly may bring heavy rain and gusty winds to Florida later in the week, while Invest 97L is expected to develop into a tropical depression or storm before making landfall near Texas or Louisiana on September 1.
