Nashville Advocate Urges Gun Safety Measures Following Accidental Death of 5-Year-Old
A Nashville gun safety advocate, Clemmie Greenlee, founder of Nashville Peacemakers and Mothers Over Murder, is urgently calling for increased firearm safety measures after a 5-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself in Antioch over the weekend. Metro Nashville Police and local gun safety advocates are emphasizing the importance of securing weapons, particularly through the use of gun safety locks, to prevent such tragedies. Greenlee, who lost her own son to gun violence in 2003, expressed frustration over the repeated warnings about gun safety not leading to significant change. She highlighted that children are naturally curious and often access firearms left at their level, even if seemingly out of reach. Metro Nashville Police are reminding residents that free, no-questions-asked gun safety locks are available at any local precinct, but Greenlee advocates for these resources to be brought directly into communities to overcome potential barriers to access.
