Eastern Mennonite School Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Educational and Cultural Events
Eastern Mennonite School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month, observed from September 15th to October 15th, with a series of educational and cultural events. The Spanish 4 class organized a chapel service that included a taste test of traditional Latin American foods, inviting teachers to sample dishes and guess their countries of origin to deepen understanding of Hispanic culture and support Latinx businesses. The celebration also aimed to dispel common stereotypes about Hispanic heritage, with student speakers emphasizing that not all Latinx people speak Spanish and that stereotypes do not define individuals. The month's activities included a curated playlist of Latin American music, daily posts about inspirational Latinx figures, and field trips to local Latinx-owned businesses, encouraging active engagement with and support for these communities.
