Spencer County Sheriff's Office Urges Patience Amidst SR 66 Closure
The Spencer County Sheriff’s Office has issued a plea for patience as the 60-day closure of State Road 66 has commenced. Officials acknowledge the detour is lengthy and inconvenient but emphasize the need for drivers to allow extra travel time. A primary concern for the Sheriff's Office is semi-truck traffic. They report that semi-trucks are deviating from the official detour and using county roads not designed for heavy vehicles, creating hazardous conditions on narrow roads, hills, curves, and intersections. The Sheriff's Office is urging semi drivers to adhere strictly to the posted official detour. Additionally, all drivers are asked to exercise caution during morning and afternoon school bus hours, as increased detour traffic will require heightened attention and patience.
