Driver Charged After Fatal Crash Involving Milligan University Cycling Team in Tennessee
Two sophomores from Milligan University, Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers, were killed, and seven other college cyclists were injured in a crash on Highway 19 in Carter County, Tennessee. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when a driver struck members of the university's cycling team who were training on the road. The driver, John Benfield, 69, of Newland, North Carolina, has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide by recklessness and five counts of aggravated assault by vehicle by recklessness. Milligan University President Stephen Waers has called for community prayer and grief for the families affected. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with authorities interviewing witnesses and examining evidence to provide answers to the families and the university.
