WKU Faculty Awarded $1.1 Million NSF EPSCoR Grant for Atmospheric, Environmental, and Disaster Sciences Training
Six faculty members from the Western Kentucky University (WKU) Department of Earth, Environmental, and Atmospheric Sciences (EEAS) have been awarded a three-year, $1.1 million federal grant from the National Science Foundation Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (NSF EPSCoR). The project, titled 'Experiential Learning and Workforce Training in the Atmospheric, Environmental, and Disaster Sciences,' will enable NSF graduate fellows to conduct research alongside WKU faculty. This research aims to advance the holistic understanding of the Earth system and enhance resilience to physical hazards. The grant will provide financial support for seven fellows annually from 2027-2030, allowing them to enroll in EEAS graduate programs and contribute to community- and industry-responsive research while developing critical professional skills.
