Hurricane Isaias Prompts Gulf Coast Evacuations
Hurricane Isaias is approaching the eastern Gulf Coast, prompting mandatory and voluntary evacuation orders across several Florida Panhandle counties, including Okaloosa, Franklin, Walton, Escambia, Wakulla Bay, and Santa Rosa. As of Thursday evening, heavy traffic and long lines at gas stations were reported as residents and visitors prepared to leave the area. Local officials are urging people to evacuate early to avoid being stranded, as wind gusts of 45 mph (72 km/h) could lead to the closure of key evacuation routes, such as bridges. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is coordinating post-storm response efforts, with urban search and rescue teams stationed in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Georgia. Coastal areas are also securing property and clearing beaches in preparation for the storm's impact.
