EF-1 Tornado Confirmed in Columbus During Tuesday's Derecho
The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that an EF-1 tornado struck the south side of Columbus, Ohio, during a derecho on Tuesday. Preliminary findings indicate that the tornado caused significant damage, including the destruction of the roof at the Barack Community Center and structural damage to homes and businesses. The NWS survey team identified a 'convergent pattern' in the damage, which is characteristic of tornado activity. Additionally, straight-line winds of 90 to 100 mph were recorded in Upper Arlington, causing widespread damage but without evidence of tornadic circulation. Other areas in Ohio, including Olde Towne East, Clintonville, Perry County, Athens County, and Cincinnati, also experienced severe weather impacts such as wind damage and flooding.
