Mississippi Foster Youth Lose College Scholarship Funding Due to State Aid Shortfall
Mississippi's foster youth are facing a significant setback as approximately 170 students have been informed that they will not receive the FAITH Scholarship for the upcoming fall semester. This development comes as a result of a multi-million-dollar shortfall in the state's student-aid system, which has been exacerbated by expanded eligibility for several state programs. The FAITH Scholarship, which is a first-come, first-served system, prioritizes returning recipients, leaving new applicants without aid. The situation has left many students, like incoming Ole Miss freshman Demauri, questioning their ability to attend college. State lawmakers are aware of the issue and are working to find a solution.
