Former University of Kentucky Student Pleads Guilty in Baby's Death
Laken Snelling, a former University of Kentucky student, has pleaded guilty in connection with the death of her baby. Snelling entered guilty pleas to several charges, including first-degree manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant. In court, Snelling admitted to "ending" her baby's life "instead of helping him" and subsequently placing the baby's body in a plastic bag and then in a closet. Prosecutors have recommended a 10-year sentence for manslaughter, a one-year sentence for abuse of a corpse, a one-year sentence for tampering with physical evidence, and a 12-month sentence for concealing the birth of an infant. The case has drawn attention due to the severe nature of the charges and the circumstances surrounding the baby's death.
