Man Arrested After 12-Hour Police Standoff in Northeast Charlotte
A 33-year-old man, Jerricho Alexander, was taken into custody early Tuesday morning after a 12-hour police standoff in northeast Charlotte. The incident began just before 5 p.m. Monday at the Evoke Living at Sugar Creek Apartments on Merlane Drive. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) had connected Alexander and his vehicle to a shooting that occurred Saturday outside a gas station on West Sugar Creek Road. When officers attempted to serve a warrant, Alexander barricaded himself inside an apartment. Around 12:30 a.m., Alexander fired shots from inside the apartment, though no one was injured. Some apartments in the vicinity were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Alexander was safely apprehended around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, with Deputy Chief Jackie Bryley emphasizing that the length of the response was due to the priority of preserving life.
