Central Ohio Transit Authority Plans 24-Hour Bus Service and New Rapid Transit Line
The Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) is planning to introduce 24-hour bus service on select routes and develop a new bus rapid transit (BRT) line. The proposed Line 99 will connect downtown Columbus to John Glenn Columbus International Airport, replacing the existing Line 7. This initiative is part of COTA's five-year plan, which includes securing over $100 million in federal grants to fund the BRT project. The West Broad Street BRT route, which is 90% designed, awaits $150 million from the Federal Transit Administration before construction can commence. COTA aims to prioritize service to business hubs and workforce areas, ensuring accessibility for overnight workers. The agency is also considering flexible bus frequency during overnight hours based on demand.
