FBI Records Unseal Details of Alleged Murder-For-Hire Plot Targeting Federal Judge and Prosecutor
Newly unsealed FBI records have revealed details about an alleged murder-for-hire plot targeting U.S. District Court Judge Michael Seabright and Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Wheat in late 2023. The plot reportedly involved attorney Sheri Tanaka and her uncle, Michael Irish, who allegedly sought a hitman to 'get rid of' the officials and 'take care of witnesses' in a high-profile bribery case. An informant alerted the FBI, claiming Tanaka and Irish offered $100,000 for the assassinations and to burglarize Tanaka's offices for incriminating documents. The FBI launched an investigation, using the informant and an undercover agent. Records show Tanaka withdrew $50,000 from two Wells Fargo branches and met with the informant.
