State Economic Competitiveness Discussed at ALEC Meeting of the Minds
Jonathan Williams, President and Chief Economist of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), discussed state economic competitiveness on the Meeting of the Minds podcast. The conversation focused on the findings from the 'Rich States, Poor States' annual rankings, which measure state economic outlooks. Williams highlighted that 30-35 states are adopting job creation and family-friendly policies, enhancing their competitiveness. He noted that states in the Southeast and Mountain West regions, such as Florida, Texas, and the Carolinas, have embraced free-market economics and lower taxes, leading to economic growth. In contrast, regions like the West Coast and Northeast have experienced population and economic stagnation.
