Unlicensed Driver Charged in Fatal New Jersey Grocery Store Parking Lot Crash
A 9-month-old boy was killed, and his mother and 5-year-old sister were hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in a New Jersey grocery store parking lot. The incident occurred on Friday in the NPGS parking lot in Jackson Township. Prosecutors have charged 20-year-old Maria Cobon-Guzman with manslaughter and assault by auto, alleging she was driving without a valid driver's license at the time of the crash. Authorities state that Cobon-Guzman has never held a valid driver's license in New Jersey or any other location. Additionally, a second woman, 22-year-old Ariadna Lazaro-Flores from Toms River, has been apprehended and charged. Lazaro-Flores is accused of knowing Cobon-Guzman did not possess a driver's license but still permitted her to operate the vehicle. Both women were scheduled for detention hearings on Tuesday. The mother and her 5-year-old daughter are expected to recover from their injuries.
