Abbott Pauses ERCOT Grid Approvals for Data Centers Pending State Audit
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced a moratorium on the approval of new data center projects until a comprehensive audit is conducted. This decision comes amid growing public concern over the rapid expansion of data centers across the state. The audit, to be conducted by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), will assess various aspects of data center operations, including tax incentives, power and water usage, and community impact. The move aims to ensure that data centers comply with state regulations and prioritize the safety and quality of life for Texans.
