Israel Captures Historic Beaufort Castle Amid Intensified Operations in Lebanon
Israel has seized the historic Beaufort Castle in southern Lebanon, marking the first time in 26 years that the site has been under Israeli control. This action comes as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered Israeli forces to deepen their operations beyond the Litani River, despite a ceasefire agreement mediated by the United States in April. The Beaufort Castle, a UNESCO-protected medieval fortress, is strategically located near the city of Nabatiyeh, approximately 9 miles from the Israeli border. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have stated that the operation aims to establish control over the Beaufort Ridge and dismantle Hezbollah infrastructure in the area. The castle has been a focal point of military significance, having been previously occupied by Israeli forces during past conflicts.
