HM Coastguard and RNLI Conduct Medevac After Cargo Ship Fire in English Channel
A cargo ship, RDJ Waalstroom, issued a mayday call due to an engine room fire while transiting the English Channel. The ship, registered in Antigua and Barbuda, was drifting near Salcombe with a crew of six. One crew member was injured and required immediate medical attention. The HM Coastguard and RNLI coordinated a medevac, airlifting the injured crew member to a hospital in Portsmouth. The ship drifted into French waters, and coordination was transferred to French authorities. A rescue tug was dispatched to tow the vessel to a French port.
