Amazon Disables Alexa Voice Control for AUX Input on Older Echo Speakers
Amazon has removed the ability for Alexa voice commands to control the AUX input on several older Echo smart speaker models. This change affects the Echo Plus 2nd Gen, Echo 3rd Gen, Echo Studio 1st Gen, and Echo 4th Gen. Users of these devices have received email notifications from Amazon confirming that voice requests such as 'Alexa, play from line in' or 'Alexa, set aux input' will no longer function. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed this development, noting that while voice control is disabled, the physical AUX inputs on these devices still work, allowing users to play audio from connected devices. Additionally, users can continue to manage the AUX input through the Alexa app or connect third-party devices via Bluetooth. Amazon has not publicly provided a specific reason for this change, though a spokesperson indicated that a very small number of users utilized voice commands for AUX input control.
