Ukraine Pushes for Summit with Russia to Revive Peace Efforts Amid Stalled Negotiations
Ukraine is advocating for a summit between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to reinvigorate stalled peace efforts led by the U.S. The Ukrainian government has requested Turkey to facilitate these high-level talks, expressing openness to any venue outside Russia and Belarus. This initiative aims to inject new momentum into diplomatic negotiations, which have seen little progress, particularly concerning the future of contested Ukrainian regions. The push for a summit comes as Ukraine's frontline position is reportedly the strongest it has been in a year, bolstered by advancements in drone technology and air defense systems. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has indicated that President Putin would only meet Zelensky for the purpose of finalizing agreements, and has called for the U.S. to send delegates to Moscow for further discussions.
