US Navy Escorts Maersk Ship Through Strait of Hormuz Amid Regional Tensions
The US Navy has successfully escorted the US-flagged vehicle carrier Alliance Fairfax through the Strait of Hormuz, as part of efforts to restore commercial shipping in the region. This operation is part of 'Project Freedom,' initiated by US Central Command (CENTCOM) to ensure safe passage for US-flagged vessels amid ongoing tensions with Iran. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint, has seen reduced traffic due to conflicts, impacting global oil supply. The Alliance Fairfax, operated by Maersk's subsidiary Farrell Lines, was among the vessels stranded due to the virtual closure of the Strait. The transit was completed without incident, ensuring the safety of the crew.
