Mike Johnson Fundraising Event Calls Police on New York Times Reporter
Police were called on a New York Times reporter, Tracey Tully, while she was attempting to cover a fundraising event featuring House Speaker Mike Johnson at the Hawk Pointe Golf Club in New Jersey. The event was held to raise money for Congressman Thomas Kean Jr., who is campaigning to retain his swing-district seat. Tully was initially blocked at the door by Kean's spokesman, Harrison Neely, who stated the event was private and media was not welcome. However, a Fox News reporter and a Pennsylvania television reporter were reportedly invited inside. Tully remained in her car in the parking lot, hoping to speak with Kean or Johnson. A Washington Township police sergeant, Dallas Overko, responded to a call reporting Tully as a trespasser but was surprised to find she was a reporter. Overko allowed Tully to remain in the parking lot, and she eventually questioned Johnson about Kean's recent 116-day absence from Congress, during which Kean revealed he had been hospitalized for depression.
