U.S. Trial Finds Low-Cost Liquid Effective in Preventing Children's Cavities
A major U.S. clinical trial has demonstrated that silver diamine fluoride (SDF), a low-cost liquid, can effectively halt the progression of cavities in children without the need for drilling or anesthesia. Conducted by the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, the trial involved 830 children under six years old and showed that applying SDF every six months successfully arrested decay in over half of the affected teeth. The findings, published in JAMA Pediatrics, suggest that SDF could become a widely used treatment, pending FDA approval, offering a non-invasive alternative to traditional cavity treatments.
