Farming Charity Launches Campaign to Address Rising Suicide Rates Among UK Farmers
The Farm Safety Foundation, also known as Yellow Wellies, has initiated a campaign to combat the increasing suicide rates within the UK farming community. This initiative, part of the ninth annual Mind Your Head week, aims to encourage farmers, rural organizations, and educational institutions to engage in life-saving conversations. Recent statistics from the Office of National Statistics indicate a 7% increase in suicides within the farming and agricultural sector in England and Wales, with 47 cases reported in 2024. The campaign highlights the unique pressures faced by farmers, such as long working hours, isolation, financial instability, and generational expectations. The Farm Safety Foundation is collaborating with Baton of Hope to introduce a digital suicide awareness and prevention package tailored for the agricultural sector, supported by a £1 million funding from The Royal Foundation.
